Proclaiming Him to Women Ministries

LaTan Roland Murphy possesses a winsome personality, causing people to feel valued and welcome. In this way, she reminds me of our Lord. Her joy and kindness confirm God’s presence in her life as He conforms her “to the image of His Son” (Romans 8:29, NASB).

God has gifted LaTan in many ways, and I’ve been blessed to benefit from some of her expressions of these gifts. In particular, I recall her leading worship at the Asheville Christian Writers Conference. As LaTan opened her heart to the Lord, she also opened it to those of us who worshipped. LaTan radiates God’s love.

Please join me in welcoming speaker, vocalist, and freelance writer, LaTan Roland Murphy, to Writers Connect.

LaTan, when and how did you come to know the Lord as your Savior?

LaTan Roland Murphy: As a young girl, I went forward to accept Christ at children’s camp. Jesus made himself so real to my heart and filled me with love and compassion and desire for others to know him. I remember wanting everyone I knew to experience the joy I felt.

Please describe your writing journey, including your greatest challenge as well as your most meaningful accomplishment.

LaTan Roland Murphy: My journey has been a long one, starting as a young girl with a love of poetry. My fourth grade teacher gave us a poem to memorize at the start of each week, and we were expected to memorize and recite these at the end of each week. I have always loved English and writing above other subjects. Words came to my heart and still at times it’s frustrating to get them all down from heart to paper. My greatest challenge is not having enough hours in the day to write.

Why did you write Courageous Women of the Bible (Bethany House Publishers, 2018)?

LaTan Roland Murphy: I wrote this book for anyone dealing with fear or insecurities about anything in life. This book began as a bible study about Deborah. The publisher liked the way I wrote about Deborah, making her circumstances applicable to everyday people and they asked me to write about eleven women of the Bible. This book helped me grow as a believer and filled me with more courage for daily life.

How has God equipped you to help other Christian writers?

LaTan Roland Murphy: Yes. I believe we are to minister and help others  on their journey, out of all we have been given and blessed with, as the Lord leads us to. This is why I teach at writers conferences so I can listen and help others who feel compelled to write or speak. I also lead my own writing workshops, Penning4Gold Writing Workshops by LaTan.

There is so much to learn about the industry, in general. It helps to have someone guide you before you even attend a bigger scaled writers event. It’s my joy to see others fulfill their call as writers and speakers.  Isn’t that what we are to be about? Spreading the gospel to the world. If we are to do this, we are to help others fulfill the parts we simply cannot do/be.

How can we pray for you?

LaTan Roland Murphy: For God’s continued anointing on my writing and speaking. For my own heart to seek and hear and respond to the Holy Spirit. That I would encourage others along their journey to do the same.

LaTan, thank you for participating on Writers Connect. I appreciate you and your labors for the Lord. May He continue to shine through you, focusing others on Christ through your written and spoken words.
